What is in the file

Six posters. One per value Juneteenth teaches. Built for the way an elementary classroom actually celebrates a federal holiday.

Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, and most elementary curricula are still catching up. Teachers ask the question every June: how do I teach this for five-year-olds in a way that is honest, age-appropriate, and joyful? These posters do that. One value per poster. Three short ideas the class can talk about. Four kid-sized strategies for living the value. And a one-line affirmation that names the lesson the day teaches.

WHAT'S INSIDE

  • 8-page printable PDF (cover + six anchor posters + directions page)
  • Six 8.5 x 11 anchor posters, one per value the day teaches: What is Juneteenth, I Am Free, Family Stories, Community Together, Joy and Celebration, Honoring the Past
  • Bright color-block header on every poster with the value name in chunky kid-friendly type
  • Original cartoon illustration on every poster of a diverse cartoon elementary student living the value
  • Three short ideas per poster ("what we know," "what freedom looks like," etc.) so kids can spot the value in their own day
  • Four kid-sized strategy cards per poster in pastel rounded cards with category tags
  • One affirmation per poster; names the value without overstating it
  • Directions page with a six-day rollout for the week before Juneteenth

MORE FROM THIS STORE (PAID)

If this pack lands in your room, here is what else is built the same way:

  • Kindergarten Emotions Anchor Pack. Six posters for the six big feelings (Happy, Sad, Mad, Scared, Frustrated, Calm). Same KID aesthetic. Body cues. Strategies they can try. An affirmation that names the feeling. Built for the calm-down corner and the first six weeks of school.
  • Kindergarten AI Literacy Unit. Three short read-aloud lessons. Two grown-up rules. 18-page printable. Three anchor posters, three K-friendly worksheets (color, circle, draw, trace), a 12-card AI-or-NOT-AI picture sort, and a parent send-home note. The whole unit fits into the first month of school.

HOW I USE THIS PACK

  • I print all six on cardstock, slide them into page protectors, and hang them above the heritage-months corner
  • The week before June 19, I read one poster a day at morning meeting. Day 1: What is Juneteenth (the federal holiday since 2021, the date June 19 1865, the short version). Day 2 through 6: one value a day
  • I keep the directions page in the sub binder so a substitute can run the same routine

THE SIX POSTERS

  • What is Juneteenth? Rose header. The date June 19 1865. Federal holiday since 2021. Celebrated by communities. A day of joy and remembering. Affirmation: "Freedom is worth remembering. Juneteenth tells the story."
  • I Am Free. Sunshine header. Freedom looks like choosing, learning, being myself. Pick the book, try the game, tell a friend, share my story. Affirmation: "Freedom is a gift. We protect it for each other."
  • Family Stories. Mint header. Stories teach us who we come from, what our family loves, what we still hope for. Ask, listen with my whole face, draw the picture, tell the story to a friend. Affirmation: "Stories travel through families. I am part of one."
  • Community Together. Coral header. People helping people. A parade or picnic. A neighborhood saying YES. Greet a neighbor, help carry or share, show up, cheer the parade. Affirmation: "A community is strongest when everyone shows up."
  • Joy and Celebration. Sky header. Red, black, and green. Drums and singing. Family food on a long table. Wear the colors, sing the song, eat the snack, dance. Affirmation: "Joy is part of freedom. We choose it on purpose."
  • Honoring the Past. Lavender header. Read true stories. Say names out loud. Keep learning. Read a book, learn a name, ask a grown-up, carry the story to next year. Affirmation: "Honoring the past is how we build a better next."

PERFECT FOR

  • The heritage-months corner, morning meeting wall, or hallway display
  • The week leading up to June 19 (federal holiday: Juneteenth National Independence Day)
  • K-2 elementary classrooms wanting age-appropriate Juneteenth content
  • PreK and kindergarten teachers who need the short version of the date and the values
  • School counselor offices and small-group SEL pull-outs that touch on identity and community
  • Sub plans where the substitute needs a routine that lands without prior context
  • Open house or curriculum night when families ask how you teach Juneteenth
  • Homeschool routines for PreK through 2nd grade

WHY THIS PACK

  • One value per poster instead of all-history-at-once. Five-year-olds can hold one value in their head at a time
  • Federal-holiday framing leads. Juneteenth has been federally recognized since 2021. The pack treats it like the established holiday it is
  • Four strategies on every poster so a kid has options. Strategies are kid-sized: pick, try, share, listen, greet, cheer, wear, sing, eat, dance
  • The affirmation names the value without overstating it. "Freedom is a gift. We protect it for each other." is age-appropriate
  • Diverse cartoon elementary students on every poster. The kid on the Freedom poster has different skin, hair, and clothes than the kid on the Family Stories poster, on purpose
  • No clip art. Every illustration is original cartoon art rendered for this pack
